What is it and do I need it?

Hired in or owned Equipment:

What is it? This is cover on hired in event equipment such as marquees, and associated equipment such as dance floors, furniture, and mobile toilets, etc. As standard this includes cover for theft, flood, storm, fire, malicious damage and accidental damage. Cover may be subject to agreed security levels and reasonable care having been taken. Most claims result from theft, malicious damage and storm damage following high winds which haven’t been forecast. In order for us to arrange cover you will need to find out the value of the equipment.

Do I need it? We suggest that you check your supplier’s T’s and C’s to see if they are holding you contractually responsible for any equipment you have hired in. If so they may also require that you arrange adequate insurance. If they don’t specify that you must take out insurance then you will need to choose whether or not you would like the cover, and your decision will be based on your estimation of the risk, your financial situation in terms of whether you can afford to take the risk yourself and of course the cost of the insurance (which we will try to make as low as possible for you).

Public Liability:

What is it?  This protects you against your legal liability in case of 3rd party property damage or injury due to your negligence.  For example, if a guest slips on a spilt drink on a dance floor and breaks their ankle. The injured guest might hold you responsible on the grounds that you failed to prevent the accident from happening.

Do I need it? This is not normally a legal requirement, however you might feel it is sensible in our increasingly litigious society. A few factors to consider are the size and type of the event, and the extent to which you are taking responsibility yourself for the running of the event. For example, if you hire a venue which is running your event on your behalf, then your liability exposure might be lower than if you run the event yourself.

Employers Liability:

What is it? This protects you against your legal liability in case of injury due to your employees. An employee is anyone that is working for you whether or not you pay them, so a volunteer is an employee.

Do I need it? If you have an Employee then, subject to some exemptions, by law you must carry Employers Liability Insurance.

Cancellation Cover:

What is it? You can either cover your event costs or if relevant the revenue from the event. The eventualities which can be insured will depend on the type and details of the event, and can include; cancellation due to adverse weather, death or illness of a person on which the event depends and the unavailability of the venue due to fire or flood.

Do I need it?  Much like the equipment insurance section, your decision as to whether to arrange insurance will depend on your estimation of the risk, your financial situation and the cost of the insurance.

Available Covers:

As per Single Event Insurance there are four sections of Insurance cover available:

  • Hired in Equipment
  • Public Liability
  • Employers Liability
  • Cancellation

For a fuller explanation of what each of these sections are designed to cover, and some things to consider when deciding if you need each type of Insurance, please read the “What is it and do I need it?” on the button below “Single Event Insurance.”

Available Policies:

We have access to a number of Insurers which provide cover on a wide range of events on a blanket basis. Each insurer has its own benefits and offer different arrangements, for example: one offers a policy which can cover up to either 15 or 45 events per year; some Insurers can cover more unusual events and other Insurers are best for larger events.

Marquee Hire Companies

For companies owning Temporary Structures either for hiring out or for own use. Sections include Stock Cover Employers & Public Liability and Business Interruption.

What is it and do I need it?

Material Damage of Stock and Plant:

What is it? This is cover on your own or hired in equipment such as marquees, and associated equipment such as dance floors, furniture, and mobile toilets, etc. As standard covered perils include Theft, Flood, Storm, Fire, Malicious Damage and Accidental Damage. You can elect to cover the equipment in storage only, in transit and/or on site.

Do I need it? In respect of your own equipment this is a commercial decision, and will be based on such factors as the amount of equipment you have purchased relative to your financial position, your aversion to risk and your perception of the chances of a loss. If you are hiring in additional stock such as other temporary structures, furniture or mobile toilets, or plant items such as forklifts of tele-handlers, then you might find it is a requirement of your supplier that you have adequate insurance in place.

Public Liability:

What is it? This protects you against your legal liability in case of 3rd party property damage or injury due to your negligence.

Do I need it? This is not normally a legal requirement, however it is normally sensible to have. You might also be required to prove that you have Insurance in place by your customers or local authorities.

Employers Liability:

What is it? This protects you against your legal liability in case of injury due to your employees. An employee is anyone that is working for you whether or not you pay them, so a volunteer can be an employee.

Do I need it? If you have an Employee then, subject to some exemptions, by law you must carry Employer’s Liability Insurance.

Business Interruption:

What is it? In the event of loss or damage to your equipment, this section protects the business against resultant loss of Gross Profits.

Do I need it? Just as with the Equipment cover, this is a commercial decision based on your financial position.
